The Manifesto

Greetings!

Welcome to deathtotraitors.com. You are among friends.

This is a community about music and the culture that relates to music. Put simply, deathtotraitors.com (or “d2t” if you’re into the whole brevity thing) is a community that encourages active support of the bands, the writers, the artists and essentially anyone actively making life more interesting.

In an age where The Road Most Traveled is the only road sheltered from so much Idiot Wind, we choose to lend our support to those willing to take the other route. We value those who have something to offer, who look at life from a different perspective and who are willing to risk ego in order to actually do something.

This is not a fashion magazine – some spider web for catching every trend that buzzes through to find a place to rest, only to slowly become a mummified eyesore. This isn’t a dartboard either, where any passerby can just toss sharp objects for a few minutes in hopes of striking the soft center of someone not completely on-guard, then move along and vanish into nowhere land.

It’s easy to sling shit when you’re full of it - so don’t be.
It’s meant to be a community of respect and expression, where opinions can be expressed and defended without the usual boorish nonsense that so often accompanies these environments. That’s how they do it – and we ain’t them.
They are full of it. They talk nothing but it. They offer nothing more than it. They are traitors to everything that is good and fun and cool about creativity, so… they must die, buried in it.

Anyone compelled to post the usual “That f#%!in’ sucks because it’s stooopid!” is fair game. If that’s your thing and you’ve somehow stumbled this far into the den, please accept our humble apologies. We take pity on you and promise to do our best to put you out of your misery quickly.
See, your bad opinions are The Enemy and a large part of why music and art are just not that fun these days. We (and friends) reserve the right to Open Up A Can on anyone spouting the usual digital ignorance. In fact, we look forward to it – it’s just us, doing our part to clean up the neighborhood of the universe.

Now, while this isn’t the usual trash talking festival, it’s also not a place for ego strokes. It might be safe ground for “those who do” but we will most certainly call foul when we see it. An honest reaction isn’t always a positive one, but it is a real one. We are joyfully intolerant of the blithering and ignorant ramblings of Windbags, but we’re also totally uninterested in the tired gushing of Ass-kissers.

Look - in our humble opinions… music is a little boring right now.
That romanticized version of Rock n’ Roll that you saw in the movie Almost Famous? At this point, it’s almost inconceivable that music was ever that important to people.
The record store - and cornerstone of a community - in High Fidelity? When was the last time you went to the one in your town? And when you did, did you know anyone working there?
Local shows, tours that come through town, the band and your friends after hours at a favorite all-night joint? Try Corporate Tour Version #XPQ and an occasional Denny’s with a bad waiter and his long, nasty fingernails.
At a time when music is taking a much smaller piece of the proverbial pie – and at a time when folks have less than ever to spend on that pie, “boring” is a very bad thing.
We believe that music is in large part missing something. Maybe a little mystery? Maybe a sense of intimacy? Maybe a sense of community? The fact that a question like that could be such an easy target for cynicism and indifference is in and of itself a bad sign for the state of Rock n’ Roll.

We’d like to be a part of changing that.
So… if that sounds like a worthy use of your time, then again… welcome. You are among friends. Thank you for taking part in this. Thank you for supporting the bands, watching the movies, reading the books and having opinions - and for just generally doing your own part to make life more interesting.

We want you to feel at home here, so… enjoy.

Sincerely,
m./d2t
